Recently my wife and I went on a boondoggle vacation in Indonesia led by the fearless kiwi photographer, Phillip Bartlett. The program was two weeks long and we covered a fair amount of Indonesia, visiting East and Central Kalimantan as well as East Java. We got to observe orangutans in their native habitat as well as in rehabilitation centers. Orangutans are only found on the island of Borneo and are their habitat is endangered due to the increasing land use pressure to create palm oil plantations. We also viewed some stunning natural wonders like Mount Bromo, an active volcano in East Java.
Our last stop was in Malang where we got to view the pet market and the colored city. It just so happened that we were in Malang for their annual city birthday celebration.
